A politician or political leader (from Greek "polis") is an individual who is involved in influencing public decision making. This includes people who hold decision-making positions in government, and people who seek those positions, whether by means of election, coup d'état, appointment, electoral fraud, conquest, right of inheritance (see also: divine right) or other means. Politics is not limited to governance through public office. Political offices may also be held in corporations, and other entities that are governed by self-defined political processes. Q. It's pretty safe to say that when people scrutinize politicians, the academic credentials of the politicians are among the first thinga that the public seeks to know about. Presidents such as Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, etc are well educated and have the academic credentials to substantiate their political clout. You have politicians on the other end of the spectrum too, like John McCain and George W. Bush, who may have gone to prestigious schools but have less than stellar academic credentials. Just HOW significant is one's high school/college/grad school academic preformance to the potentiality of their becoming a successful, respected politician? For exampmle, I worked in the Carter Administration when Jimmy Carter was President. Jimmy Carter failed as a President because he lacked much of the experience that he needed. Bill Clinton succeeded because in addition to his academic credentials he had excellent experience in Washington. It takes a combination of both to be successful in a Political Office. Also, for example Obama is having real trouble and it will get worse because Obama does not have the Washington experience necessary to carry out the duries of President of the United States of America.
