High pressure sales at a networking group?
Q. I joined a networking group that meets once a week to exchange referrals. So far so good. However, there is one person in the group that is using high pressure sales tactics on me and I do not like it. The product in question is beyond my budget and I do not feel it will benefit me. What is the best, most effective and tactful way to deal with this?
Asked by David L - Mon Feb 11 11:46:45 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Tell them you can't afford it. They don't know what your finances look like. You don't have to be rude. Act like you agree about how wonderful the product must be but it is not in your budget or immediate goals at this point in time. It sounds like this person is a really effective sales person. Take some notes on how they do it and incorporate it in your techniques with a little less the high pressure.

Is it true that the solidarity of a group will increase if a certain pressure (mentally) applied to them?
Q. Is it true if we want to make a group has strong solidarity we should apply external pressure i.e. mentally, to them? Is there any scientific explanation to this assumption? Thanks
Asked by Roffi - Fri Jul 24 09:21:26 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes. In experiments in a Boy Scout Camp they found solidarity increased during artificial emergencies they believed were real (i.e. they had to "rescue" the bus bringing them food) after having artifically created animosity within the group they then made them more cohesive. Likewise, we can observe similar effects on a wider scale during war or national emergencies (rationing, the Blitz spirit). . The explaination overall is that evolutionarily, we realise we need teamwork to cope, we percieve less competition from others, or the actual act of working together causes increased positive regard. It's not perfect, some people will not be affect or will take advantage. Some pressures will cause people to become less cohesive (i.e. the threat… [cont.]

Q. What age group is the most affected by hypertension of high blood pressure?
Asked by alan m - Sat Nov 8 15:29:21 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The risk of developing hypertension increases with increasing age. If you re a male older than 45 or a female older than 55, your risk for hypertension is higher. Over half of all Americans aged 60 and older have hypertension. This means that the older you are, the more likely you are also to suffer the consequences of hypertension.

A. in a nuclear power plant, you need to know the pressure (and temperature) to know what happens inside the core. I'd say they have control over it because they invented it : since they needed it, they must have invented it, at some point.

A. A pressure group can be described as an organised group that does not put up candidates for election, but seeks to influence government policy or legislation. They can also be described as interest groups , lobby groups or protest groups . In Britain, the number of political parties is very small, whereas the number of pressure groups runs into thousands; as the membership of political parties has fallen, that of pressure groups has increased. The term pressure group is a very wide definition that does not clearly distinguish between the groups that… [cont.]

A. The dependent variable was the person's judgment. It was Asch's conformity experiment where people were shown a group of lines and had to identify which matched another line that was presented. What was tested was if the confederates (people working for the experimenter) agreed that the wrong line matched, would the participant also agree.
