They are comprised of tracheids (long tapered water conducting cells) that disintegrates, leaving the cells thickened walls behind to form a nonliving conduit through which water can flow freely. Cilitated cells are cells with hair-like structures on them that usually occur in large numbers on a cell surface. Together, their numerous hairs wave back and forth to promote movement.
