Structure is a fundamental if sometimes intangible notion referring to the recognition, observation, nature, and stability of patterns and relationships of entities. From a child's verbal description of a snowflake, to the detailed scientific analysis of the properties of magnetic fields, the concept of structure is now often an essential foundation of nearly every mode of inquiry and discovery in science, philosophy, and art. In early 20th-century and earlier thought, form often plays a role comparable to that of structure in contemporary thought. The neo-Kantianism of Ernst Cassirer (cf. his Philosophy of Symbolic Forms, completed in 1929 and published in English translation in the 1950s) is sometimes regarded as a precursor of the later shift to structuralism and poststructuralism.

The description of structure implicitly offers an account of what a system is made of: a configuration of items, a collection of inter-related components or services. A structure may be a hierarchy (a cascade of one-to-many relationships) or a network featuring many-to-many relationships.

How does structure affect the tone of the poem?
Q. I would really appreciate any help from anyone about this. I have a presentation next week and I am getting ready to have background knowledge about this. How does the structure of a poem affect its message, tone? Any ideas welcomed!

A. Where do the line breaks come? Are the lines end stopped? What stanza is used? Do thoughts run over between stanzas? Is there a turn? Does the poem itself have a unique form (i've seen poems written in spirals, etc.)? Does it follow a regular meter? You should be able to talk in some detail about how, for example, Chidiock Tichbourne's "On the Eve of his Execution": My prime of youth is but a frost of cares, My feast of joy is but a dish of pain, My crop of corn is but a field of tares, And all my good is but vain hope of gain; The day is past, and yet I saw no sun, And now I live, and now my life is done. My tale was heard and yet it was not told, My fruit is fallen, yet my leaves are green, My youth is spent and yet I am not old, I… [cont.]

How does the structure of a cell enable it to carry out a particular function?
Q. If anyone could possibly help me with this it would be much appreciated. How does the structure of a : 1] nerve cell, 2] palisade cell, 3] xylem 4] and ciliated cell enable it to carry out a particular function? Please help, am in desperate need of knowledge.

A. palisade cells are elongated cells in the palisade layer of a leaf. Their shape prevents them from fitting tightly together and leave holes between the cells to allow air from the outside travel through the leaf which then helps with photosynthesis. xylem cells are tubular, elongated cells that are dead at maturity. They are comprised of tracheids (long tapered water conducting cells) that disintegrates, leaving the cells thickened walls behind to form a nonliving conduit through which water can flow freely. Cilitated cells are cells with hair-like structures on them that usually occur in large numbers on a cell surface. Together, their numerous hairs wave back and forth to promote movement. Their thin shape allows it to be easily flexed… [cont.]
